Templating & Fabrication from slab yard to sink hookup
Templating happens after the cabinets are installed and shimmed level, never from a drawing. Stone cannot be adjusted on site, so anyone offering to template from a plan is fitting a top to a kitchen that does not exist yet.
Seams are inevitable on most kitchens because slabs have a maximum size. Where they land is a decision — behind a sink, in a shadow line, away from a run you look down — and it should be yours.

Why does templating happen after the cabinets are installed?
Because cabinets are never exactly where the drawing says and walls are never straight. A digital template of the installed cabinets gives the fabricator the real shape, the real wall, and the real position of the sink and the range, so the counter fits with no gaps and no shims. Templating from a drawing is how a counter arrives with a gap at the wall.
How long between templating and installation?
One to two weeks for most stone; longer for a slab that has to be ordered. The cabinets are in use without a counter in the meantime, and a temporary plywood top is common. The date is set at templating, and the installation itself is a day.
